Community Events

Since March 2015, the Gateway Joint Venture has taken its community involvement seriously. The Fairview JV group is a combination of local residents and guests to the Prince Rupert community. This dynamic group of contractors has proudly sponsored and participated in a number of festivals, conferences and activities in the Prince Rupert area. Here is a showcase of those events.

Sponsorship of the Novice Hockey Tournament

We believe in the value of kids participating in sports. Therefore we are proud to sponsor the 2017 Novice Hockey Tournament on March 3-5, 2017 held by the Prince Rupert Minor Hockey Association. Good luck to all the teams!!

     

Wallyball

Best described as fast paced volleyball with live walls; Wallyball has become a favorite amongst the Joint Venture ranks.

Christmas Hamper Donation

As the site prepared to shut down for the holidays a collection was taken up for the Salvation Army’s Christmas Hamper program which provides families with a special holiday meal as well as presents for the household. $550 was raised which was matched by the Joint Venture, resulting in an $1100 donation. Thank you to everyone who donated!

     

Winterfest Santa Clause Parade

One of the FRPD company trucks came to life on Saturday December 3rd for the 21st Annual Winterfest Santa Clause Parade!! Good ‘ol Mater spreading Holiday cheer in downtown Prince Rupert! Congratulations to the Canadian Coast Guard for winning 1st place!!

As the Fairview Expansion Phase II project nears completion time has been taken to gather the crews responsible for the hard work. Over half a million man hours have occurred since the Joint Venture began in 2015. Thank you to everyone involved.

Curling

With winter comes ice sports, and the Joint Venture has taken a liking to curling! Many thanks to the curling club for hosting our group. Check back for photographs after each curling adventure!

Floor Hockey & Dodgeball

It doesn’t get more Canadian than hockey. Avoiding the rain, and impatient for the lakes to freeze over has the Joint Venture participating in floor hockey! Spicing things up, we made it back to back with dodgeball. If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!

1st Annual Charity Golf Scramble

Held on Sunday August 27, 2016 this inaugural golf scramble fundraised over $1000 toward the Prince Rupert Trail Enhancement and Recreation Society (PRTERS). The Gateway Joint Venture had five teams registered for this tournament, one of which took first place! Great job guys!

Prince Rupert Golf Club Support

Further to supporting golf tournaments, ten individuals from the Joint Venture became members of the Prince Rupert Golf Club for the 2016 season.

     

2nd Annual Islander Charity Slo-Pitch Tournament

Hosted by Ridley Terminals, this charity tournament was styled so that the top two teams selected a charity to receive a donation. Gateway Joint Venture had two teams participate in this company tournament. The JV Vipers placed 2nd, donating $1000 of tournament funds to the Prince Rupert Minor Softball Association and matched that with another $1000 of their own funds. The JV Jaguars placed 4th, in a tight match up with the JV Vipers. Arguably one of the best games of the weekend!

Port Edward 50th Anniversary

A neighbor of Prince Rupert, Port Edward celebrated its 50th anniversary, and the Gateway Joint Venture was happy to support and sponsor this important community celebration!

     

Seafest and the Quick & the Daring

Gateway Joint Venture was a gold sponsor for Seafest 2016, chipping in towards Friday night’s Music at Mariner’s park headliner, Alex Cuba. Saturday four teams of two were busy building boats for the Quick and Daring race held Sunday afternoon. One team made it to the final heat, and all had unforgettable memories! It is noteworthy to mention that the JV not only had the best looking boat, but also one that did not make it off the shore!

Trade Talk

Terry Stewart, the Project Director for the Gateway Joint Venture, spoke to a local business audience explaining the Joint Venture involvement in the Fairview Terminal Phase II Expansion. The presentation was featured in an edition of the N2K and on the local radio program “CBC North”.

Gateway Joint Venture was a proud sponsor of the Nation2Nation Forum held in Terrace on November 5, 2015.

     

ILWU Local 505 Charity Golf Scramble

In 2015 Gateway Joint Venture proudly sponsored a hole at the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 505 of Prince Rupert’s Charity Golf Scramble. Multiple Joint Venture personnel participated with over $30,000 raised!

     

NABOC 2015

As a kickoff to the project starting up in March 2015, Gateway Joint Venture was a proud sponsor of NABOC Prince Rupert. NABOC provides a forum where First Nations, government and the private sector can network around upcoming development in the community.
